1986-87 Larry Bird Boston Celtics Jersey - Original Authentic Sand-Knit Vintage.

This is an original jersey from 1986 with sewn on names and numbers, not a modern replica: an extremely rare find as MacGregor/Sand-Knit I dont believe had naming rights at the time to sell these jerseys with Birds name on them. You typically will only be able to find these with just the numbers only, but no player name and most were silkscreen printed replicas. The name and numbers on this jersey are sewn tackle twill. The jersey is in great condition with no stains or tears to speak of. The jersey fabric has a nice stretch to it, the dimensions shown in the pictures are without it being stretched.

This is the exact style and quality of the on-court game worn jersey of the 1986-87 season minus the "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Boston Celtics" tag which I believe may have only been on team-issued jerseys. It was the first year the NBA logo was on the shoulder just after MacGregor/Medalist Sand-Knit was granted the exclusive NBA rights to manufacture for all the teams. Prior to the 1986-1987 season, there was no exclusive uniform supplier for the NBA. The league consisted of 23 teams at the time, and each contracted directly with a national supplier of their choosing or with a local distributor for which the Celtics, was Sand-Knit for most of the 80s.

Whether you wear this or display it, its a fantastic item to own and sure to impress. The thickness and quality of the jerseys from this time period give it a nicer look and feel than the mesh ones that started a couple of years later with Champion in the late 80s/early 90s and beyond.
